Create Your Own PVC Shower Chair
Shower chairs allow your loved ones to shower independently if they are disabled or injured. Store-bought shower chairs are expensive. Making your own allows you to save money while imparting independence to user.
Unlike traditional chairs, shower chairs cannot be made from wood or metal, since wood will mildew and metal will rust in moisture of shower. preferred material for shower chair is polyvinyl chloride, or PVC. Cut two pieces of woven mesh measuring 28 by 28 inches.
Build PVC Shower Chair
Cut 3-by-3-inch square out of each corner of both pieces of fabric. Wrap all four sides of both squares around 2-by-22-inch PVC pipe. Overlap fabric 1 inch and secure it with straight pins.
Remove pipes and sew along straight pins with sewing machine set on straight stitch. Remove straight pins. Reinsert PVC pipes into four pockets on one of mesh squares.
Connect four pipes together using two four-way PVC pipe fittings and two three-way PVC pipe fittings to create chair’s seat. Reinsert three PVC pipes into three of pockets on second mesh square. Use two 90-degree angle pipe fittings to connect three pipes together, creating back of chair.
Connect back of chair with seat you created in Step 2 by inserting open ends of two back pipes into open ends of four-way pipe fittings of seat. Create square out of four 22-by-2-inch PVC pipes. Connect four pipes together using four three-way pipe fittings.
Insert 18-by-2-inch PVC pipe into each of open ends of three-way connectors, creating chair base and four legs. Place seat of chair onto legs by inserting 18-inch pipes into open joints on seat.
