Replace Washers in Bathroom Faucet

If you’ve noticed that your room dripping bathroom faucet, it may be time to replace the washers under compression valve stems. When closing the tap, compression washers presses down the valve seat, closing the water flow. compression washers wear out over time and need to be replaced to prevent water from seeping in front of them.

You can replace compression washers with some basic tools. Close the water supply to the faucet. These valves are under the sink.

Replace Washers in Bathroom Faucet

Open faucet to drain any remaining water. Pry decorative cap off top of faucet knob using flat screwdriver. Remove retaining screw from knob with Phillips screwdriver.

Pull knob off valve stem. Turn valve assembly nut counterclockwise with adjustable wrench until it can be removed. Pull valve assembly out of valve seat.

Remove screw from bottom of valve stem using Phillips screwdriver. Remove and discard old compression washer from end of valve stem. Place new compression washer on end of valve stem.

Insert Phillips-head screw and tighten it until it’s snug.
