Remove two screws from overflow plate, and pull faceplate loose. If you are only replacing plate, use pliers to straighten and remove cotter pin holding lever to stopper linkage. Otherwise, pull whole assembly up and out of overflow tube.

This may take little jiggling around and twisting. Keep working unit up and down until it comes free. Connect new overflow plate lever to linkage, existing or new, using new cotter pin provided.

Secure pin by bending ends over. For all-new assembly, adjust nut and threaded rod of linkage to match length of original unit. Tighten lock nut to keep adjustment secure.

Then, feed plunger and linkage down overflow pipe until faceplate can sit against wall of tub. Clean any crud or tasty morsels from around face plate area with scrubbing sponge, then install plate using new screws provided. cut out portion of faceplate flange should face downward.

Test new stopper by setting lever to closed up position, and partially filling bathtub with water. If it leaks, remove unit, and adjust linkage to place plunger bit lower, and repeat test.
