Use flat-head screwdriver to pry off base retaining clip. Lift base off chair, i,e., part attached to wheels. Use screwdriver to take out bearing assembly and two golden-colored bearing washers on either side.

Lift out rubber cushion and bright zinc washer with screwdriver. Use screwdriver to pry out notched pneumatic cylinder retainer and large flat washer beneath it. Take out old pneumatic cylinder.

Discard all of parts that you have removed, other than chair base. Insert new pneumatic cylinder with long rod of cylinder pointing out of chair. Place large flat washer over pneumatic cylinder rod, followed by pneumatic cylinder retainer.

Slide 1-inch pipe over rod of pneumatic cylinder. Tap 1-inch pipe with hammer to seat pneumatic cylinder retainer firmly. Remove pipe.

Place large, bright zinc washer over rod, followed by rubber cushion, golden-colored bearing washer, bearing assembly, and another golden-colored bearing washer. Put chair base with wheels back on chair. Slide base retaining clip into place and use pair of needle-nose pliers to snap it into place.
