Remove Drain Pipe From Bathroom Sink

Fortunately, removing drainpipe bathroom sink is a quick and easy process, and does not require water valves to be turned off. Place bucket under drain pipe to capture water that was seated in the P-trap. Remove P-trap under the sink.

P-trap is U-shaped portion of plumbing. P-trap retains amount of water in its base to prevent any noxious gases from entering bathroom. To remove P-trap, loosen slip nuts at both ends of P-trap.

Note that slip nuts have ridges around them. Use pair of adjustable pliers to grasp slip nuts and to turn them in counterclockwise direction. Once slip nuts have been loosened, P-trap can be removed by pulling it in downward direction.

Remove sink’s pop-up drain linkage. pop-up drain linkage operates to close drain on bottom of sink to allow sink to fill with water. pop-up drain linkage is located at back of pipe which is connected to bottom of sink.

linkage is attached to pipe with large plastic retaining nut. Note that retaining nut has several ridges around it. Use pair of adjustable pliers to grasp retaining nut and to turn it in counterclockwise direction.

Once retaining nut has been loosened, linkage can be removed by pulling it in away from sink’s drain pipe. Remove drain pipe from bottom of sink. drain pipe is attached to bottom of sink with large nut.

Grasp nut with adjustable wrench, then turn nut in counterclockwise direction to loosen it. Once nut has been loosened, pull pipe straight down to complete removal.
