Over time, leaks or excessive use can damage the cylinder, causing the chair to either lock on a position or slowly sink for days. Some suggest pieces of yardstick. After moving chair to desired height, break or cut yardstick pieces to fit snugly between wheel base and seat. Secure with several strips of duct tape to hold seat in place.

Dissemble chair completely using pipe wrench. Lay chair seat down on workspace and remove clip and washer and center of base, depending on model. Remove base slowly and check for small parts. Place pipe wrench on main shaft and turn in either direction to loosen.

Tighten screw at top of lift to control air pressure and reduce leaking. If you find issue with piston, you can use copper piping to replace broken or bent piston. Reassemble chair, including all pieces.
