Clean Drain Line on Air Conditioner System

If you are seeing accumulation of water near your air conditioner it is likely to be due to clogged drain line. Most drain pipes are made of PVC materials, and which are designed to be easily maintained and inexpensive to replace. Find end of drain hose of air conditioner on outside of house.

Place empty wet / dry for drain line to remove any loose dirt or debris. You may need small steps if it is high off ground. Turn off unit and find drain line inside air conditioner.

It is generally near end of drain pan, below condenser coil. Blow compressed air or gas into drain hole, sending loose dirt and debris out toward end of drain line. Attach spray nozzle to end of garden hose and spray forceful stream of water into drain line.

This should dislodge any remaining materials clogging line. Check entire length of drain line to make sure there are no leaks. Keep in mind that water needs to flow down and out from air-conditioning unit.

If portion of drain line has sagged, this could be where water is backing up and there may not be clog in system. Tie up sagging portion and run water through it to see if water flows freely to outside drain opening. Suction out end of drain line again with wet/dry vacuum.

Repeat process of water flushing and vacuuming if needed for bad clogs.
