Clean Air Conditioner Drain Pipe With Chemicals

If you notice unusual smell from seeping down from your attic or even your basement in summer months, you may have problem with your drain pipe air conditioning. These tubes are used to carry away condensation unit air conditioner evaporator. Sometimes, pipes may be clogged by debris, mold or mildew.

One way to keep these tubes clean is to treat them with chemicals such as household bleach. Turn off power during air conditioner, where cleaning is drainpipes. Turn off unit itself or, in case of large units wired directly into circuit, cut power at circuit breaker.

Locate end of air conditioner drain pipe. This is usually outside or underneath one of house eaves. Clear away any debris from pipe exit.

Locate inlet for drain pipe in air conditioner drain pan. If pipe is currently backed up, it may be hidden underneath layer of water. Feel around edges of pan with your fingers until you locate inlet.

Remove any large clogs in inlet manually. Slowly feed length of plastic tubing into drainpipe until you feel it hit clog. Move tube back and forth until clog loosens and you can push tubing all way through pipe.

Pour fresh water down drain pipe to rinse it out.
