Build Solar Energy System

Although it comes with steep price tag, system your own solar energy building comes with many advantages. Depending on how much of the installation you can do yourself, you can reduce your amortization period drastically. build your own system, requires advanced knowledge of home improvement techniques, including electrical, circuit and roofing. This project may take four to five work full days, depending on how large the system you install.

Writing Wish paper devices down, you are powered by solar energy. Be interesting, amp rating of each device and the number of hours that will work every device throughout the day. Multiply the Amp rating for each device by the number of hours you plan to operate it.

Build Solar Energy System

This number will indicate total amp hours that you need to provide through your solar power system. Generally, total amp hours from your appliances should equal no more than 50 percent of total capacity of your battery bank. For example, if you plan to use your appliances for 200 amp hours on daily basis, your battery bank should charge up to 400 amp hours.

This will help to determine number of batteries that you need, however, amperage on deep cycle batteries vary depending on which product you purchase for your system. Mount solar panels on south-facing portion of your roof-top by using power drill and mounting kits provided with solar panels. Solar panels should be angled so that they match latitude of your location, plus or minus 15 degrees depending on seasonal adjustments for height of sun.

For example, if you live at location where latitudinal coordinate is 30 degrees, panels should be mounted 30 degrees from horizontal. If your kit includes ability to change angle at which solar panels are mounted, you should add additional 15 degrees during summer months and subtract 15 degrees in winter, when sun’s height is lower in sky for shorter duration of time. Solder 12 gauge electrical wiring to two output terminals found on side of solar panel.

black 12 gauge wire should continue from positive terminal of solar panel and white wire should connect with negative terminal. Use green wire to connect to solar panel’s frame as way to ground wire. Expose at least one inch of copper wire by stripping sheath of two wires you are joining together.

Twist two wires being joined together into X, wrapping first wire’s end along length of second wire until first wire’s end is completely wrapped around second wire. Repeat same process for second wire. Heat joint by holding soldering iron beneath wire joint.

Apply soldering iron and solder to top part of joint, adding more of soldering wire until joint is completely covered with solder and exposed wires are no longer visible. Wrap adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing around newly soldered joint, heating it tubing with heat gun until it covers solder. Connect ends of extended wiring coming from solar panels to charge controller, which has screw-on connections for input wires.

charge controller prevents deep-cycle batteries from becoming overloaded, thus reducing maintenance and cost of your solar power system. charge controller should also be stored adjacent to batteries. Wire deep-cycle batteries together so that they form circuit by using either parallel or series pattern.

Use 8-gauge wire to connect batteries. To connect batteries into series circuit, which doubles voltage of system, wire negative terminal of one battery to positive terminal of its adjacent battery. Continue this pattern until all terminals are connected.

To connect batteries into parallel circuit which doubles amperage of system connect positive terminal of one battery to positive terminal of its adjacent battery. Do same for negative terminals on your deep-cycle batteries as well.
