Alternative Energy Make Solar Cells and Solar Panels

Solar energy is the energy generated by the sun in the form of heat that is transmitted to earth. best part about solar energy is that it is renewable, inexhaustible and pollution-free. Solar panels can be installed at homes to generate electricity.

Solar panels use solar cells to convert solar energy into electricity. Clean 1-by-2-foot copper flashing sheet of sandpaper. to cut with scissors into two small pieces size of your stove burner.

Heat one out of two copper flashing sheets for about half hour until it becomes red hot. high temperature facilitates oxidation of copper flashing sheet and forms thick layer of black cupric oxide. Allow sheet to cool to room temperature.

temperature drop causes shrinking of copper sheet underneath, causing outer layer of black cupric oxide to peel off. There is red cuprous oxide layer underneath, which is required for functioning of solar cell. Slightly rub to clean copper flashing sheet using sandpaper and water to remove all traces of black layer of cupric oxide.

But be careful not to scrub off red cuprous oxide layer. Now take cooked piece of copper flashing sheet coated with layer of cuprous oxide and uncooked piece of copper flashing sheet and bend both to set inside clear large plastic bottle containing salt solution. Secure both copper sheets using two alligator clip leads in such position that they do not touch each other.

Make sure that level of salt solution in bottle is at least 1 inch below alligator clip lead. Connect cooked copper plate to negative terminal and uncooked copper plate to positive terminal of micro-ammeter.
